Founded in 2017, Seachange has become a cornerstone of the Budleigh Salterton community. Based at Budleigh Community Hospital, they bring together residents, activity groups, charities, NHS services, and more. This vibrant hub offers something for everyone – from a nursery and gym to a cafe and community transport. Each year, they directly support a staggering 8,400 people, ranging from young children to seniors.
Seachange believes that good health and happiness go together. That's why they offer practical support for all ages, fostering a sense of connection and belonging. Just look at Andy's story: "Seachange transformed my life... Their activities provided social connection and delicious food, and the staff's support helped me overcome anxieties and make new friends."
The SeaConnections project will tackle the growing issue of loneliness and isolation in East Devon. They'll focus on specific groups most vulnerable to feeling disconnected, including:
- Older adults
- People with long-term health conditions
- Those struggling with unhealthy lifestyles, particularly impacted by the cost-of-living crisis
- Unpaid carers
The grant will allow Seachange to expand its volunteer network. Currently boasting 110 volunteers who support individuals and groups, they'll actively recruit even more to enhance their community offerings. Additionally, they'll continue collaborating with over 100 partner organisations to maximise their impact.
Why is this important?
Loneliness and isolation are growing issues, and SeaConnections aims to make a real difference. Thanks to National Lottery players, we can directly support more people across East Devon and build a stronger, more connected community.

Seachange gives a focus, company and different conversations. Without it I think Ken would be very lonely.
