Seachange gives a focus, company and different conversations. Without it I think Ken would be very lonely.
Budleigh is known for its older population. Indeed, it has the highest proportion of people aged over 65 in Devon. It also has the highest proportion of people in the plus 75 age group in the UK. But these figures and the general perception of Budleigh hides other parts of our community, our children.
We aim to cater of all of our community, not just the majority. That’s why we have an on-site nursery, Carousel, which accepts children from six months upwards. They are still running their Easter bonnet competition. Drop your child’s homemade Easter bonnet into the Hub to be judged and win more chocolates eggs! One of our favourite regulars Ken Robinson is shown taking a keen eye on the bonnets.
In April we will be launching our ‘Budleigh Buddies’ project. It will be an informal group for families and their under fives to meet and share the highs and lows of parenting. Our first meet will be the 22nd April, meeting every Thursday thereafter. Along the way the group will be joined by professionals such as health visitors to provide advice and guidance. The group will be facilitated by the Hub’s multi-talented Kate Harrison. The group is open to parents from Exmouth and all other areas too.
Following on from this group we will be running a baby massage and a baby yoga group. Sally Joy, a very experienced teacher will run the class. This amazing class is wonderfully calming for the babies and parents too. Previously spaces have been much sort after so please contact soon to book a space.
These classes and activities do not happen in isolation of one another. The Hub’s inclusive ethos means all ages mix. Ken judging the Easter bonnets, the children chatting away to our Launchpad café chef Rob who in return informs them about his favourite Led Zeppelin guitar solo. A true day in the life of the Hub.
